Transplanting Seedlings

Once your seeds planted, nurtured and raised to a big enough size for you to confidently transplant there are a few little tips to make the process easier and more successful.

Have your bed prepared and if you are laying drip irrigation have this in place before planting.
Plant your seedlings after the heat of the day has past.

Put down your layer of mulch and then use it to create your planting grid.

Different crops require different plant spacing but our most common spacing is a 30cm grid staggered 4 - 3 - 4 -3 plants per row down the bed length.

Prepare your grid spacing In the mulch before removing the seedlings from the punnet or tray.

When you remove the seedlings gently tease them apart to seperate their roots and using a butter knife make a hole in the soil in the first space , place the seedlings roots down with the top foliage upward and push the soil back around to offer it support.

Work your way down the bed until all of your babies are in the ground.

Give the bed a good water with a light spray hose and wish them well!
